I was sorry to read how people have reacted to the cover (In Zaire) "Place of no return". I´ve decided to write to explain why we did the song so you know how it came about. Pro 7 called EMI (our record company) and said that after long discussions and a hundred Demos from other bands that they wanted Reamonn to record our interpretation of In Zaire. It turns out that the Producer of the show "Fort Boyeaux" is a big fan of Reamonn and felt that if we did the song it would be exactly what he wanted. I heard the original song for the first time when we were asked to cover it, I wasn´t impressed and felt we shouldn´t do it. Mike and Sebi however were big fans of the original version as it played a major part in their younger days. We put the helmets on and went into the studio and after two days of work I was really impressed in how we changed the whole song to be what had still the original feel but a Reamonn sound. We knew after the two days we needed an input from the african side which is why we asked Phillip Mevio to help us out. Phillip's cousin played with Michael Jackson and it was obvious after the recording work that music runs through the familly blood.
The recordings really impressed the guys at Pro 7 who felt they had made the right decision to ask us for help. In the band it is always the same when it comes to writing a song or doing a cover if we like it then we do it if we don't then´we are the first and last people to hear the version. If you know us then you know that we have never reached a decision under the influence of money I believe that the day you decide to let money influence your music is the day you should give it up. The great thing about doing a song about Africa is that we got to do the video in the country. it was an incredible experience to be in the townships that we had only seen before on CNN the warmth of the people touched all of us and we hope that we make it back their to play. You'll get to see the video soon and I hope you like it and I also hope you like you like the version of the song. I hope this mail clears up a few of your questions aa to why we did the song and at the end of the day I hope you have the same amount of fun with the song as we do....

Take care
Rea
